The latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX brought in an average of 1.979 million viewers overnight, according to Showbuzz Daily.

That means that this week's edition saw a 0.9% increase from last Friday's 1.956 million average overnight rating. Also, the blue show managed to score a 0.5 in the ever important 18-49 demographic, and this was yet again the the number one score for the evening.

Those fans who returned to see what went down on Friday's episode witnessed the return of Lucha House Party member Kalisto, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy brawling in front of a whiteboard and Braun Strowman revealing a new bald look...before he threatened to throw Alexa Bliss out of the ring.

SmackDown also saw the announcement of a Hair Vs Hair match between former best buds Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville at SummerSlam, and Asuka won the right to challenge SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley at the event after winning a three-brand battle royal. She will now face both Sasha Banks and Bayley for their singles titles at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

Next week's SmackDown will be the go-home edition before SummerSlam. So, will the promise of AJ Styles defending his Intercontinental Championship against the 'Charismatic Enigma' and more twists in the Strowman/'Fiend' story be enough to give the show a boost coming into WWE's second biggest PPV of the year?
