WWE SmackDown: Ranking All 9 New Roster Additions From Worst To Best
7. The Shining Stars
If there's anything good to come from this move, it's that we will hopefully see the end of one of the more ridiculous gimmicks from the interminable, storied history of ridiculous gimmicks. Primo and Epico are serviceable talents, though both pale in comparison to their kin, Carlito. They have also had the unfortunate challenge of being saddled with two of the more absurd packages WWE creative has placed on a tag team.
While their run as Los Matadores was a dead-end trip down embarrassment avenue, the timeshare conman gimmick of The Shining Stars required an Olympic level of mental gymnastics to tie into the world of professional wrestling. We don't know for sure that their move to the blue brand indicates that those characters are no more, but the serious demeanor they carried themselves with during their introductory run-in gives hope that a new gimmick is on the way.
Ultimately SmackDown, plagued by a thin division, gave up one tag team and received two in return. One of those squads are some of the biggest stars in the company, so it's a net positive from that standpoint. But if you were to grade the addition of Primo and Epico strictly vs. the loss of Heath Slater and Rhyno, Raw got the better end of that deal.
Unless something changes dramatically for the cousins, I don't see them ever wearing SD's tag team titles, outside of the minute chance of a very brief run as transitional champs.
