WWE SummerSlam 2014: 10 Things We Expect To Happen

3. Roman Reigns vs. Triple H Or Randy Orton

WWE.comWWE.comRoman Reigns is a second-generation star who has exploded onto the scene in 2014 thanks to tremendous booking on the part of WWE Creative and growing fan sentiment. He has a tremendous move set, including a high impact Superman Punch that leaves any opponent dazed and a spear that flattens any and all men unlucky enough to experience it. He carries himself like a star and has an understated charisma that has captured the attention of the WWE Universe. SummerSlam will be the biggest test of his young career, that much is for certain. What is not is who his opponent will be. Randy Orton seemed like the most natural based on recent booking. The Viper has dodged questions from commentators and announcers about Reigns and has appeared intimidated by the former powerhouse of The Shield. That they have carried the main events of many house show events over the last three months only strengthens the argument for them to meet on a grand pay-per-view stage. A former WWE World Heavyweight champion whose star power is undeniable, Orton is exactly the type of performer a young star like Reigns should work with if he wishes to take the next big step toward main event status in WWE. With that said, the June 30 episode of Raw featured a tense staredown between Reigns and Triple H that resulted in a loud "this is awesome" chant by the Hartford fans, indicating that they are more than ready to see the explosive Reigns take on the cerebral Triple H in a high profile main event. Even though Reigns has already pinned The Game cleanly in the past, it is a match that is incredibly appealing thanks to the extraordinary booking of the Reigns character to this point. WWE Creative should be commended on the job they have done in making him look like the star he has become. Regardless of whether it is Triple H or Randy Orton is irrelevant. SummerSlam will be the latest stop on Reigns' journey to the top of the industry. A breakout star capable of dethroning John Cena at some point in the future and carrying WWE for years to come, Reigns will be featured prominently in marketing and promotional materials for the show and his ascension will commence therein.
