WWE SummerSlam 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

8. Finn Balor Blanking His Buddies

With a gargantuan 13 matches spread-out over six hours of TV time (and several of those matches running much longer than necessary), SummerSlam was always going to be strapped for time. Fortunately WWE were able to wrap things up on the six-hour mark without having to drag proceedings even further into the evening, but this lift little time for backstage segments.

WWE made an exception for The Club. World-renowned testicle collectors Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were backstage discussing the recent Ringpostitis epidemic when they were reunited with their old buddy AJ Styles. After some brief banter and a cry to #BeatUpJohnCena, another acquaintance stepped into the scene: Finn Balor.

The Club threw-up “Too Sweet” and called for The Demon King to reciprocate, but Balor wasn’t playing ball. Instead, he smiled, turned around, and walked away from his former crew, leaving them hanging.

This Easter Egg served as a nice call-back to each man’s NJPW days, and hints towards a future angle. AJ Styles took Balor’s role as the Bullet Club’s de facto leader when Finn left Japan in 2014, but with Balor a face and his old friends heels, he couldn’t accept their invitation. Are WWE building towards a storyline between the four? Here’s hoping.
