WWE SummerSlam 2018: 10 Things WWE Got Right

One could almost smell the tedium as WWE rolled into Barclays Center for SummerSlam 2018. The main event, another Universal Title match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, was hardly thrilling, and the same boredom surrounded some other bouts on the card.

Finn Bálor vs. Baron Corbin, Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens (again) and an anaemic rematch between Jeff Hardy and Shinsuke Nakamura? What were WWE thinking?

They were thinking they had some aces up their sleeves, that's what.

Some, not all, of the pre-show negativity was blasted away by some good decision-making at SummerSlam this year. That headliner was concise, not offensive, and other stories like AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe and The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan will march on into further pay-per-views.

That's smart business despite any online furore over Bryan's loss or the WWE Title DQ. Critics are not going to like many of the points raised here, but it's true: WWE did get enough right on the night to make the so-called second biggest event of the year live up to that billing.
