WWE SummerSlam 2025: 12 Nightmares That Could Come True

6. Drew McIntyre’s Replacement Sucks

Friday's episode of SmackDown will be telling. If Drew McIntyre is in the house for that, then everyone knows he'll be in New Jersey for SummerSlam weekend after all. For context, big Drew has been stranded in the UK after attending a friend's wedding in England, and he's been having some passport woes preventing him from flying back to the United States. Eek!

Recent reports say WWE will put a contingency plan in place should McIntyre miss out on his planned tag-team bout with Logan Paul vs. Randy Orton and Jelly Roll. The Miz has put himself forward on social media as a viable replacement. He wouldn’t be the worst conceivable choice, but it feels like WWE’s hands are tied here should Drew fail to get back to the US in time.

You've got to feel for them, and for him too. What a travel-related nightmare he's been having.

Miz pointed to history with both Orton and Paul as evidence of his viability. Fair enough, but...would anybody fit as snugly into the role of antagonist as Drew? Obviously not due to his key part in the story (including an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that had mainstream media buzzing). If it's someone other than McIntyre, then Paul will need to do even more of the heavy lifting at SummerSlam.

Fingers crossed that this is one big worry about a whole load of nothing. There's still time for Drew to hop aboard a flight and make his way to SmackDown then WWE's next PLE. If not, then it will probably be Miz who takes his place as a last-minute substitute.
