WWE recently pinned an article about 'superstars who quit' to the official Facebook page of CM Punk. This is the latest move by WWE in an increasingly vocal criticism of the awol star, with Stephanie McMahon commenting at Payback that "The fans want you to quit just like CM Punk did." WWE's latest 'quitter' dig is evidence of the company maybe having a bit of fun at Punk's expense, or maybe they really do want to actively smear his legacy. With his contract set to expire this July, perhaps now is the time WWE finally feel comfortable to let loose on criticising the star. The company have valid reason to be frustrated, you can understand why they have some ill will to Punk. The star left abruptly this past January, basically laying the law down that he wasn't going to come to work anymore. This was after a year in which WWE invested heavily in him with feuds against The Rock, The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. The 'quitter' article on Punk's Facebook page is obviously deliberate. He can't really argue with it, he did quit, the indirect association is fitting. What Punk must now be wondering is if the increasing subtle digs are about to become overt criticisms once his contract expires. Perhaps the reason WWE stayed quiet so long was because they believed they could tempt him back, or maybe it was because there was a legal implication in the contract where both sides wouldn't speak about the dispute. With WWE already taking shots and Punk's contract about to expire, maybe we are finally about to see the Steve Austin 2002 style smear campaign many predicted.
