P. Diddy Performance
The man formally known as Puff Daddy had his little concert, and it was fine. A vast improvement over last year's train wreck of musical performances and it was kept short to accomodate the wrestling. You know, that thing we paid 70 dollars for. All in all, Diddy sounded good and kept it quick, so no complaints here. World Heavyweight Championship Match: Alberto Del Rio vs Jack Swagger w/ Zeb Colter
It is important to note that Swagger's entrance on a camouflaged ATV/truck was not televised in favor of the video package. Not a huge deal, but a little irritating. It is also important to note that this feud has been decent, but a little overdone and silly. Swagger and Colter hate illegal immigrants, Del Rio is Mexican. Boom, WrestleMania World Heavyweight Title match. Anyway, this was a really good technical match, as we all knew it would be. It got exactly as much time as I predicted it would at around 10 minutes, and those ten minutes were filled with exciting counter-wrestling and near-submissions. Del Rio has become a tremendous babyface with some of the best selling skills in the buisness (not even close to Ziggler but still very strong), and Swagger fits into his rage-fueled bigot role perfectly as long as he doesn't have to talk. Some highlights of the match include Del Rio busting out my beloved German Suplex, Swagger locking in the Patriot Lock like 40 times, and Del Rio winning with an absolutely brilliant and amazing counter into the Cross-Armbreaker. This match was just 10 minutes of these two world-class athletes putting on a master-class of counter wrestling for an audience that didn't really seem to care all that much. A shame really, because the work done here was really good stuff. ***3/4
