WWE: The Complete WrestleMania 29 Review

CM Punk vs The Undertaker

This match left me speechless. This was what WrestleMania is all about. There really are no words to describe the brilliance of CM Punk and The Undertaker except for...wow. Wow. This was a phenomenal match in every sense of the word, and lived up to the huge expectations set for it. It managed to match, if not top, Undertaker's past four incredible performances at the event and finally gave Punk a match worthy of his stature at the grand stage. With that in mind, this is my Match of the Night and a serious contender for Match of the Year, as for over 20 minutes these two proved why they are two of the best performers on this earth. The near falls alone were beyond incredible, as there were at least three times that I was sure beyond any reasonable doubt that the match was over. I know nothing I can say will do this match justice, but let's start with the entrances. Punk was played to the ring by none other than Living Colour, who sounded absolutely fantastic. Now THAT is what a musical performance should be! Punk then proceeded to make my night as the gong hit and instead of selling fear like the rest of Taker's victims, let out a primal scream as the lights went out. This match had an incredibly intense atmosphere before it even started. Then came Taker's entrance, in which he received his usual bone-chilling entrance assisted by dozens of "lost souls" reaching up to him in what could have come across as hokey, but instead turned out to be an amazing visual. The contest contained not only absolutely amazing wrestling, but the best damn character portrayals you will ever see, as Punk mercilessly mocked and took apart the larger Deadman with a smirk. He even went so far as to attire himself in Taker's colors and successfully perform Old School in a fantastic moment, and Taker doing his trademark sit-up while locked in the Anaconda Vise elicited a huge "holy shit" from my party, though no moment was better than Punk's Macho Man elbow to Undertaker on the announce table, which didn't break and seemed to have severly injured Punk's leg. Punk, being the tough man that he is, perservered. This lead to the mother of all near falls, as Punk hit the GTS only for Taker to bounce of the ropes and hit a Tombstone for a 2.999 count. The longer I talk about this the less time you'll have to watch this unbelievable match. Just watch this and you'll see what I'm talking about. Undertaker goes 21-0 following a Tombstone. ****3/4
