WWE: The Rise And Fall Of The World Heavyweight Championship

Conclusions

Alberto Del Rio Jack Swagger There are signs that the WWE are trying to get some pep back into the WHC. One need only look at Alberto Del Rio's opponents for the last couple of PPVs to realise that the WWE is looking to established talent to help put Del Rio's reign over- such as Christian, Rob Van Dam and now John Cena. The thing is, that although this is nice to help Del Rio look nasty, it does little to actually put over the WHC. Would it be horrible for Cena to hold the belt for a while? Probably not- he wouldn't be my first choice (that would be CM Punk) but I think this is something that Cena should be tasked to do more of. Like the Undertaker and Chris Jericho in the mid to late 2000s, Cena should probably now withdraw himself from the WWE title picture in order to make the WHC more credible and to give the up and comers a shot at someone big. It would also help make the WHC feuds more interesting, and allow him to draw himself away from the top of the card gradually without the WWE looking like it was a messy transition. This is a belt that has been held by some of the greatest in the industry. There is no need for it to be thrown into the trash just yet. It still has a big role to play for the roster if it is allowed to.
