WWE: Top 10 Evolution Moments

3. Turning On Their Own

At Summerslam 2004, Randy Orton would beat Chris Benoit and become the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history. The next night on RAW, Evolution would celebrate Orton achieving what Triple H seemingly could not, in bringing the World Title back to the hands of Evolution and successfully defending it. In a jubilant celebration scene Batista held Orton on his shoulders, parading the World Champion to each side of the audience as Flair applauded and Triple H gave a definitive thumbs up. Yet something did not feel right. Triple H quickly lost his smile, and as Orton mouthed the word €˜F***k€™ Triple H gave his fellow Evolution member a thumbs down. Batista would slam Orton onto his back, and Triple H, Flair and Batista would beat Orton just as Evolution had beaten their many opponents in the past. It was unprecedented at the time, as fans witnessed Evolution turn on their own member. It would later come to light that Triple H wanted Orton to drop the World Heavyweight Championship to him, resulting in Orton spitting in the face of Triple H and with it mark his official exit from the Evolution stable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU74Mi8F1Ps This was a significant moment, in that it changed the dynamic of Evolution from a four piece stable to a three piece stable, but more importantly it revealed the truth that Evolution has always been built around Triple H and his quest to retain possession of €˜his€™ World Heavyweight Championship. In turning on Orton, the WWE Universe could sense tangible cracks in the edifice of one of the most ruthless and dominant stables ever to exist, and most probably felt relieved!
