Were WWE Trying To Turn Paul Heyman And Brock Lesnar On Raw?

There have been a lot of things in the past week in WWE that could be considered huge news items. Obviously the Ultimate Warrior passing away tops them all, but in terms of an on screen storyline story, it's the ending of The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak that is garnering the most attention. Most of us never thought it would end. The next night on Raw in New Orleans, Brock Lesnar entered the arena along with his manager (or advocate) Paul Heyman. In a night full of epic segments that didn't really involve in-ring performances, it was Heyman that may have had the best promo of them all. A report from F4WOnline.com states that the plan at Monday's Raw was not for Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman to turn babyface although some fans may have been under that impression based on the reaction they got. Even though it was a heel promo designed to make Lesnar look like a cocky jerk, a lot of fans cheered. Part of that is because the post WrestleMania Raw crowd is often filled with smart fans who like cheering the heels. That's what happened on Raw even though Heyman was insulting the fans. During the promo, Heyman said that Lesnar wasn't there to put smiles on people's faces. He was there to put fear into children. He also mentioned that Undertaker collapsed due to a concussion and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon accompanied him to the hospital. The promo also focused on Heyman calling Lesnar "the one" in Undertaker's 21-1 record at WrestleMania. The report goes on to state that the promo received rave reviews from not just fans but people within WWE. That's no surprise because Heyman is the best talker in WWE. With CM Punk no longer in the picture, that's no longer an arguable point. Heyman is the best at what he does. Where the story goes from here is another question. Lesnar might not be around WWE programming until SummerSlam because he only wrestles a couple of times per year. Much like last year, Heyman has a new "guy" that he's been paired with: Antonio Cesaro. Since Cesaro has been getting babyface reactions, perhaps it's going to lead to Cesaro going against Lesnar down the road although that's not a sure thing at this point. Lesnar's one of the most intriguing performers in WWE and as the man that broke the Undertaker's WrestleMania streak, he should be pushed even more. However, due to his reduced schedule it's unlikely that it will be capitalized on soon. That's a shame because Lesnar and Heyman together is truly what's best for business.
