12. Wrestlemania VI- Overall Score: 3.3/5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-IDfNObZK4 OMQ: 3 CROWD: 4 STAR POWER: 4 HR: 4 FEUDS: 2 PROD. VALUE: 3 The first Wrestlemania in Canada- home to some of the world's most passionate pro-wrestling fans. The first (and last, lol jk) time you'd ever seen Hulk Hogan lose a match clean on PPV and the first babyface vs babyface main event pro-wrestling had known; Wrestlemania VI is historic for many reasons. It's weakest point is, perhaps, its match quality- being another 4-hour, 14-match show but they weren't all bad, unlike prior events. Dusty Rhodes making his one and only wrestling appearance at Wrestlemania in a fun, mixed tag match against Randy Savage and Sensational Sherri. You had good matches between Ted DiBiase and Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper and Bad News Brown. Mr. Perfect's 'perfect record' was ended here and the crowd lapped it all up. Wrestlemania VI is the archetypal, first generation Wrestlemania and I love it. 11. Wrestlemania 23- Overall Score: 3.3/5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHh2WUMoWE4 OMQ: 3 CROWD: 3 STAR POWER: 4 HR: 3 FEUDS: 4 PROD. VALUE: 3 Nobody saw the success of Wrestlemania 23 coming. Nobody thought it would be (for a while anyway) the most purchased Wrestlemania of all time. Perhaps it was the anti-Cena movement, rolled eyes at the involvement of Donald Trump or the mere fact The Great Khali won a match on the show but 'Mania 23 wasn't supposed to do that well. Goes to show you, "an attraction-based business". People wanted to see either McMahon or Trump get their head shaved and they paid to see it. The "Battle of the Billionaires" is the template for how to book a PPV match. Whilst you cannot make a show up of those matches alone, they make the difference. The feuds between Undertaker, Batista; Shawn Michaels and John Cena were extremely well booked and both very good matches but in terms of bringing eyeballs to your show that wouldn't normally come, you need something unique and different. It comes to being objective, you can't argue with the numbers. Wrestlemania 23 hit a home run and it's one that I would think WWE are most proud of and rightfully so. 10. Wrestlemania VII- Overall Score: 3.5/5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NQT6smyQ9g OMQ: 3 CROWD: 5 STAR POWER: 4 HR: 3 FEUDS: 3 PROD. VALUE: 3 We kick off the top 10 with the patriotic, red, white and blue, flag-waving Wrestlemania VII, brotha! Right in the midst of the Gulf War, 1991, WWE decided to capitalise on American patriotism by making it the theme of this entire event. In doing so, they turned Sgt. Slaughter (a man whom had never competed in a Wrestlemania match before) heel, put the World Title on him and had Hulk Hogan overcome the evil, Iraqi sympathiser to tremendous American fanfare. You might think, as an Englishman, this approach might alienate me, rather than inspire me. Far from it. It worked and it worked well. The crowd for this event were fantastic- one of the best crowds in WWE history. They were hot for the whole 4-hour extravaganza which did, admittedly, have its down moments and whilst they, ultimately, downsized the venue for the event due to poor ticket sales, it worked out for the best because the audible for this event was fantastic. I encourage you to watch the whole Randy Savage vs Ultimate Warrior segment and listen to the crowd. If that match doesn't sweep you up into the emotion of being a wrestling fan, you probably should go find something else to watch. This event had it all. Oh and it was also the beginning of a little known something called The Streak. Mark Calaway has come a long, long way! 9. Wrestlemania XIV- Overall Score: 3.5/5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-xKaJG_lCo OMQ: 3 CROWD: 3 STAR POWER: 4 HR: 4 FEUDS: 5 PROD. VALUE: 2 "Here is the DX band, led by singer Chris Warren, to play the alternative, new wave version of the themes: America The Beautiful and our national anthem."- Howard Finkel. That's code for, "Can you all please rise whilst this group of people you've never head of sing something s**t." Seriously, go look it up. I get that WWE was trying to appear rebellious and anti-establishment at the time but there's no excuse for making people listen to that! Other than that, there's not a lot that the "X-Rated" Wrestlemania did wrong. Mick Foley, as Cactus Jack and Terry Funk, as Chainsaw Charlie, defeating the New Age Outlaws by trapping them in a Dumpster somewhere backstage was a bit random but lets look at everything else: They had Sunny, in her prime, walk out the top of the show in an outrageous outfit, check. They found a way to keep the IC Title on the up-and-coming People's Champ, The Rock, whilst making babyface Ken Shamrock look like a badass, check. They dropped Pete Rose on his face, check. They brought 8 months of one of the best booked feuds ever- Kane vs Undertaker to a climax, check. They brought Mike Tyson in to push Stone Cold Steve Austin into global superstardom and turn the tide in the Monday Night War, check. Not bad eh? Well done WWE, Wrestlemania 14 owned professional wrestling.
