WWE Wrestlemania 29: The Rock vs. John Cena - The Rematch That Redefines All

Loss Brings Redefinition

Wrestlemania 29 will come and go, but the outcome of the WWE Championship match will have a ripple effect across the WWE Universe until Wrestlemania XXX. It goes without saying that The Rematch will be the main event this Sunday, but the stakes are higher than ever before for all involved. For John Cena, should he lose, he will begin again on another downward spiral. After winning the Royal Rumble this year and earning the right to face the WWE Champion at Wrestlemania 29, Cena found himself on his way back to WWE prominence. If he loses to The Rock, arguably all of the past years of John Cena being the face and shoulders for the WWE could inevitably be washed away. Should The Rock be allowed to continue as champion after this Sunday, all that Cena has worked for during the majority of his in-ring career could be all for not, as he would be forced to lay down for The Great One all over again. Should John Cena lose again, the WWE could be making a critical misstep into the future of it's own industry. But know this: don't rule out a Cena heel turn that ultimately leads to a victory over The Rock at Wrestlemania 29: Cena could be a very strong and viable strong heel champion. For The Rock, he really does have bigger fish to fry at this point in his life. He has accomplished so much as he continues to grow as a global icon, and he was unquestionably deserving of another WWE Championship run. Rocky brings the television ratings, but he also brings that electric entertainment and he is a must see, to be sure. But for him to walk out of Wrestlemania 29 as champion would only set up the WWE for failure as the product moves forward into the future. The Rock is great, for sure, but he is also extremely limited in how he can deliver as champion any longer. As fans, we are willing to overlook his varied, spotty appearances as we head into Wrestlemania this year; but should he continue as champion, he could possibly overstay his welcome and harm the WWE product in the long term. The Rock has nothing left to gain from remaining as WWE Champion, but he will not go out on a loss to John Cena. Should he lose, we may in fact get a third rematch this time next year, once again setting up the 'Mania main event a year ahead of time. For the WWE, they have made the smart decision by utilizing The Rock over the past year as best they can. Undoubtedly he has been great, a return to form as only The Rock can bring it. And they have added depth to the John Cena character by having him follow through on his downward spiral, causing him to question whether or not he can win the big one against one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. But should they leave the strap on The Rock, WWE will be forced to commit to many more months of "if he can or when he can show up on TV" from The Rock. Furthermore, The Rock cannot deliver what's needed as WWE Champion with such a limited appearance schedule. Should John Cena win, he then moves on, conquering his demons and starting anew, cementing his legacy at Wrestlemania with a WWE Championship victory over The Great One. But should Cena lose, the WWE Universe will be held captive again by a part time champion. However and whatever the final result, the landscape will shift following the 3 count at the conclusion of The Rematch, and we will then shove off into uncharted, and possibly even stormy, WWE waters.
