Where Is He Now: Wrestling on the Independent Scene

Evan “Air” Bourne looked like he was destined to be a high-flying fixture of WWE for years to come, with his eye-popping offense. He and Kofi Kingston formed an electric duo that won the WWE Tag Team Championship and held them for nearly five months. However, Bourne was suspended for a Wellness Policy violation during their reign, then again after they lost the titles.

While suspended, he was involved in a motorcycle accident that knocked him out of action for more than a year. Bourne would wrestle one NXT house show match in 2013 against Sami Zayn before being released in 2014.

The newly rechristened Matt Sydal would go on to wrestle for Evolve, PWG, Dragon Gate, Ring of Honor, New Japan, Impact Wrestling and a host of other indy promotions. He’s racked up several titles, including the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship (with Ricochet) and Impact X-Division Championship.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
