1. Mick Foley’s Heel Turn Was Ballsy

Good lord, this was brave.

Beloved legend Mick Foley had worked a vicious hardcore match vs. Edge at WrestleMania 22 by the time his unlikely heel turn rolled around a short while later. Publicly, Mick said he was impressed by the ‘Rated-R Superstar’s’ guts (ones he'd almost spilled). Finding common ground through pain, the pair joined forces on the 8 May edition of Raw, then teamed with Lita to beat Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer and Beulah McGillicutty at One Night Stand on 11 June.

The build for that 6-person tag was largely done on Raw. Keep in mind that this was all pre-weekly TV show for the ECW brand, so Monday nights became the place to see everyone from Foley and Edge to Funk and Dreamer get ready for the latest extreme tribute show on pay-per-view.

The most shocking thing about all of this wasn't Funk wrestling again, or even Beulah popping up. No, it was WWE successfully turning Mick heel for the first time since 1998. That was a daring move creatively, and it could've backfired on everybody heading into ONS.

Thankfully, Foley was good enough in the role to coax some boos from fans who'd been calling him "God" mere months before. What a herculean effort from Mickles to make this reality so deep into his career.
