4. Why New Day?

Pop quiz: When was the last time the New Day won a televised tag match?

If you answered, “26 May, more than six months ago,” you win!

So, why was New Day awarded a World Tag Team Championship match on Monday night? They lost the tag titles in June, lost a #1 contender’s match, then lost a couple of six-man tags against the War Raiders and Penta. All the while, the duo spent months in mourning for the tag division. But they never did anything to even remotely justify this match. In fact, they only wrestled those two six-man tags during the past four months before Monday night.

The match itself is a different story, but it really is an indictment of WWE to not even book a tag match with the New Day winning a squash over local talent. Sure, they had some singles matches – nearly all of which they lost – but they don’t justify a title match.

And now the War Raiders will get a tag title match next week after not wrestling on Raw in three months and having not won a straight tag match since April. (The “they never got their rematch” argument is more of an indictment against the booking than justification.)
