10 Video Game Plot Twists That Were OBVIOUS (If You Really Looked)

It was right in front of you the entire time!

Generally speaking, games aren't known for being subtle about their big plot twists. Pokemon villains are notorious for spouting out their evil plans right out of the gate, and the repetitive tropes of franchises such as the Legend of Zelda or Mario make it very easy to predict how each new story is going to pan out.

However, just because most games tend to go for the blatantly obvious approach to storytelling, that doesn't mean there aren't games that do it in a much more subtle and sophisticated way.

Some games are able to foreshadow their plot twists so cleverly that, even though they're staring you right in the face the entire time, you still don't realize what's happening until the big reveal. These are the best and most brilliant examples of storytelling in games that you tend to appreciate long after you finish your playthrough.

You may not have gotten these hints the first time you played, but once you read about them, it'll all become totally obvious. Here are some of the greatest plot twists in games that only the most observant players noticed (obviously, get ready for some spoilers ahead).

10. Arthur's Tuberculosis - Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game full of amazing little details. From NPCs actually eating their food to certain body parts of your horse shrinking in cold weather, the developers clearly put a lot of thought into designing the game. This, of course, extends to the main story and how the game foreshadows Arthur getting diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Although the revelation came as a surprise to many during their first playthrough, there are actually a few subtle hints the game leaves to let you know of Arthur's sickness beforehand. The first and most direct one is Arthur getting coughed on by Thomas Downes when you try to collect money from him. You can see the sick man coughing up his spit and blood right into Arthur's face, sealing his fate.

This is not the only hint, however. The game also lets you know there's something wrong with Arhtur by making it more difficult for him to gain weight. Unlike John, who can get pretty big pretty fast, Arthur barely bulks up after becoming infected.

This kind of attention to detail is why Red Dead Redemption 2 is still considered a gaming marvel after all these years.
