Why It's Noteworthy: Return of Jean Grey

FMV at 9.8: $130 - $180

X-Men Red was one of several new "X" series introduced by Marvel in recent years, and the first issue was important due to its introduction of a character who had recently died: Jean Grey. While it's true that Jean has died and returned a lot over the years, this newest resurrection was featured in an amazing story coupled with brilliant artwork.

Speaking of artwork, the Rob Liefeld variant cover (pictured) became a hot commodity almost immediately, and within a few months of hitting store shelves, it had boosted in value to around $75. Now, almost two years later, the book is selling for $130, and the trend suggests it will continue to rise.

Marvel published 18 different variant covers for this book, and the main first printing is the one with the lowest value. There are some books worth a lot of money, including the Jiminez Remastered variant, which sells for around $180.

Other variants include the Pepe Larraz Young Guns variant, which sells for around $46, the Unknown Comics Edition, which is valued at around $85, and the Lee "Virgin" Edition, which sells for an average of $100. If you have any of these variants, you should get it graded and slabbed, as it's likely to go up in value when Marvel and Disney start releasing X-Men movies in the MCU.
