Richard Sala retells the fairy tale of Snow White, taking out all the pleasant, Disney-esque moments and replacing it with darkness! A young man (Prince Charming) goes in search of Delphine (Snow White) leading him to a disturbing small town in the middle of nowhere surrounded by black forest. The town is filled with nothing but odd people: a horrible smiling man selling mouldy apples, a funeral of witches, a possible serial killer and his mad mother, a crazy cab driver, and lots of small ugly men who fetishize a dead woman. Richard Sala creates an amazing gothic horror comic in Delphine that takes elements of Hitchcock, Poe, Perrault, ETA Hoffman, and Charles Addams and works them in flawlessly into this demented fairy tale. Coloured in a moody sepia tone throughout, the book builds a claustrophobic atmosphere of terror to its inevitable dark conclusion. Does Prince Charming get the girl in the end? Does he hell! Delphine there will be blood!
