1. Moon Knight #1 (Marvel)
Warren Ellis is one of the great comics writers of our time, having penned masterpieces like Transmetropolitan, Planetary and The Authority as well as having had filmed adaptations of his books Red and Iron Man: Extremis. In more recent times he's been quiet on the comics front, choosing instead to focus on his prose novels Crooked Little Vein and Gun Machine. Moon Knight will be Ellis' first ongoing title in years and joining him will be the art team from the recent Deadpool story arc, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, artist Declan Shalvey and colourist Jordie Bellaire. For this series, Ellis takes mentally troubled superhero Marc Spector akfua Moon Knight from Los Angeles back to New York City where MK will feature in "weird crime" stories as Ellis mixes in street level action and supernatural strangeness. Ellis has said his version has less in common with recent iterations of the character like Charlie Huston and Brian Bendis', and more with Doug Moench's, the character's creator. From previews, the art looks fantastic and with Ellis writing a new kind of crime fiction with a crazy person as the protagonist, it looks like it's going to be a hit! * What #1s are you excited for next month?
