Barry Allen is The Fastest Man Alive, he is... The Flash!

We've all heard this. Viewers of the hit CW show hear it every episode. So how could Superman possibly win? This latest race, in the Wal-Mart exclusive Superman Giant # 7 by super star comic creators Tom King & Andy Kubert, delivers a rousing Rocky Balboa style battle of will versus skill.

The race is a charity event to see who can circle the globe ten times first. Superman is the underdog here, and the bets are against him. He keeps up fine at first, but then starts to lag against Flash as expected. Superman isn't just fast though, amoung his many gifts is super-hearing which leads to a game changer for his stake in this race.

Lex Luthor has set up a plan to embarrass the Man of Steel. Once the race has already started, Lex makes a public wager that he'll donate an extra billion dollars to the children's charity if Superman wins, which he doesn't believe is possible.

This leaves Superman with inadvertently disappointing the public. At that point Superman knows he must win. Not for his own image, but for the children. There simply isn't an alternative in his mind. Even if he could manage to communicate the problem to Flash, it wouldn't be sportsmanlike to ask Flash to take a dive. His only option is to force himself to the painful threshold of his absolute physical limits.

In the end the children get a very fine new home funded by LexCorp. In a far hidden corner hangs a simple plaque that reads "he won.”
