10 Awesome Antiheroes From British Comics Creators

7. Dream - The Sandman

The Sandman Neil Gaiman
Vertigo Comics

Neil Gaiman’s magnum opus, Sandman, is a story that follows the titular Sandman, Dream. Dream is one of seven immortal beings known as The Endless, eternal beings that control distinct and separate elements of human life. Dream is the God of stories, dreams and all things unreal. His adventures, as a result, often put him at odds with the humans around him, as he is not part of their world at all.

Dream as a being creates an interesting view of the character. Strictly speaking, Th Endless are not Gods, being older than Gods themselves. They are primordial forces personified. Examining a character like that creates a far more dynamic and intriguing protagonist than a traditional superhero.

While he is a hero, his nature and origin as one of The Endless puts him less in the traditional heroic role and makes him an antihero that has earned his place in comic history.
