10 Awesome Comics That Deserve Their Own Video Game

9. The Authority

Authority After the success of Watchmen, the comic industry thought the takeaway was that the world needed more grim and gritty superheroes willing to get their hands dirty, something that led to over-saturating the market with stone-faced, teeth-gritting anti-heroes who sported costumes covered with unnecessary pouches, oversized shoulder pads, unrealistically huge guns, and a willingness to slaughter villains. While the 90s were winding down, this trend had mostly faded, but then Warren Ellis took the concept of the anti-hero and made it work with The Authority. A team of superheroes who really will resort to anything, The Authority is led by Jenny Sparks, the Spirit of the 20th Century (or at least it was prior to her death halfway into the first volume), and has a whole roster of incredibly powerful superheroes. Just having the opportunity to play as these characters in an open world would be enough of a fun experience (imagine bending cities to your will as Jack Hawksmoor or warping reality as the Doctor). Plus with their interdimensional ship, the Carrier, they can create portals anywhere on Earth. But one of the things The Authority isn't afraid of are little annoying principles like the rule of law or a nation's sovereignty, even going so far as to conquer America in order to bring order to it. The way you play the game impacts how you get treated by the rest of the world, and the rest of the Wildstorm universe's superhuman community.
