10 Awesome Comics That Need To Be TV Shows
8. American Splendor
Once again dear reader, please bear with me one this as I know there has already been a movie from the work by Harvey Pekar; but the overall tone and style of the movie was one that wouldn't work on television. I don't want to go into too much detail about the film, because this is an article on bringing comics to television, I just feel that the autobiographical style would be very well suited for a TV programme. The unique style of American Splendor, in that it used different artists for different stories from Pekar's life means that a variety of different writers and directors can work on each episode and give the show a feel that is really seen on television, due to each series being made by the same people. Whilst he may not seem like an obvious choice due to his directing style, it would be great to see Edgar Wright returning to television directing where he first made his niche to direct and maybe adapt one of Pekar's stories. We are a nation of people obsessed with reality television programmes; The Only Way Is Essex, Geordie Shore, Made In Chelsea, the list goes on. It would be lovely to see a reality show that doesn't strive to be anything else other than one man telling his life and how at times the monotonous and mundane can be what is truly interesting to encounter.
