4. Transmetropolitan
What can be said about Warren Ellis' cyberpunk masterpiece? Plainly and simply this needs to be brought to our screens for all to experience. Set in America, somewhere within the 23rd century and following the life of Spider Jerusalem, who was 'loosely' based on Hunter. S. Thompson (and for those familiar with the comic and Thompson will know how much these two characters are alike), the story follows Jerusalem as he returns back to The City to resume his work as a journalist and show the world his disdain for the culture and society that has developed over the years he has been in hiding. With issues ranging from sex, violence, celebrity culture to cryogenic revivals and nanotechnology, Ellis was certainly before his time with the issues the he wrote into his work; but they seem all the more important in today's society and because of this we need to see it on television. Spider Jerusalem's anarchic character needs to be brought to life for all to enjoy and show the world of today what a ridiculous culture we now live in. Also, anyone that has a bowel disrupter as weapon is alright in my book!
