10 Awesome Justice League B-Listers Who Deserve More Love

9. Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson)

Red Tornado
DC Comics

The concept of legacy characters has dominated the comic book sphere since the advent of the Silver Age in the 1950s. They enable readers to see their favourite heroes and villains portrayed through a new perspective to varying levels of success. One of the more notable legacy heroes in DC is the mortal embodiment of Nabu himself, Kent Nelson/Dr. Fate.

Following an archaeological expedition gone awry, young Kent Nelson revives Nabu, Mesopotamian deity, and one of the Lords of Order. The god takes Nelson under his wing and teaches him the ways of sorcery for twenty years, following which Nelson returns to the United States and begins his career as the mystic superhero. He also founds the Justice Society along with other World War II-era heroes.

Fate channels his mystic power through a helm, amulet, and cloak given to him by Nabu. He possesses superhuman physical statistics, manipulation of the elements, teleportation, incorporeality, interdimensional travel and spellcasting. These abilities put him on a level above a lot of heroes in the DC universe, and challenge cosmic entities such as the Spectre.

His incredible abilities - and the lore surrounding them - make Fate one of the more interesting heroes in DC that is yet to be catapulted to the spotlight.
