10 Awful Comic Book Characters That Don't Deserve A Movie Adaptation

6. Big Sir

In 2008, comedian Ben Stiller took Hollywood to task with the satirical send-up Tropic Thunder. In the picture, Stiller plays a washed up action star who tries to earn artistic credibility by playing a mentally challenged character called Simple Jack. While Stiller intended the character to skewer Hollywood actors' exploit serious issues to earn accolades, disability advocacy groups found the character insensitive and demeaning to the mentally disabled. Over 20 advocacy groups voiced their outrage over the character and activists picketed screenings of the film. Warner Bros could find itself at the centre of a similar controversy if they are foolish enough to adapt an even more offensive character, the wholly distasteful Big Sir. Unlike Simple Jack, Big Sir doesn't have the saving grace of being satirical. Big Sir was a mentally challenged young man named Dufus who possessed a massive frame due to an abnormality in a brain gland. Dufus' imposing physique made him the target of the super-villain known as The Monitor. The Monitor broke Dufus out of a mental hospital, gave him a suit of armor and an energy mace and pitted him against the Flash. This silly and egregious character eventually met his end at the hands of an exploding baby and Flash fans everywhere breathed a collective sigh of relief. The Flash is one of the founding members of the Justice League and Warner Bros will more than likely include him and his rogues gallery in the big screen Justice League. Hopefully, the studio has the good taste to sidestep the inevitable backlash Big Sir will bring with him.
