2. Kingpin Snaps - Daredevil (Vol. 7) #12

House of X X-Men Return
Marvel Comics

While it was almost inevitable that Kingpin would return to his old crime-riddled ways after trying to go straight and become the completely lawful mayor of Manhattan, few people could have predicted he'd lose it in such a dramatic fashion.

Unlike many similar storylines, Fisk doesn't just decide to turn back to doing crime, or reveal that he'd never reformed in the first place. Instead, Wilson attends a fancy dinner party with some of the city's elites, where he's mocked by a man who clearly considers himself to be both untouchable and infinitely superior to Fisk.

Infuriated, the Kingpin's civilised demeanour slowly breaks, until he and the man are left alone, and the ex-mafia boss strangles his dinner companion to death, brutally - and bloodily - murdering him.

It comes as such a sharp contrast to the rest of the refined dinner scene that you can't help but love it, solely because of how well it shows the two worlds that Kingpin is torn between; one of gaining power through prestige and respect, and one of gaining power through sheer brutality.
