Green Arrow #11 Juan Ferreyra
DC Comics/Juan Ferreyra

When Benjamin Percy took over the reigns of Green Arrow last year, few would've expected him to launch a book so emphatic in its embrace of the character's history. The CW's Arrow, after all, was still extremely popular, and Ollie Queen's New 52 adventures felt markedly derivative of the show as a result. Also he didn't have the beard, which was pretty outrageous to be honest. But still, things didn't really look like they were set to change.

Thankfully, Rebirth's Green Arrow is every bit the loud-mouthed, wise-cracking leftie the character has been for decades now, and while yes, Percy's writing is pitch-perfect, a lot of the credit for the book's success must go to Juan Ferreyra's art, which is just drop-dead gorgeous.

Percy's book continues to exemplify the ethos behind Rebirth, with the book having managed to immediately restore the character's legacy whilst also making it a series palatable for newer readers. Central to the series too is Black Canary, and the legendary partnership shared between the two heroes. But, more importantly, Rebirth's GA has its finger firmly on the pulse of today's zeitgeist. Socially conscious, fun and riveting to the core, it's the perfect book for GA readers longtime and new.
