Gail Simone's indie comics debut made for one of the most anticipated comics of the year, and boy did it deliver.

Taking on a 'crime drama meets Freaky Friday' feel, Simone and artist Cat Staggs' tale of a hitman swapping bodies with his depressed housewife is so much more than the premise would seemingly imply. It's frank, honest, beautifully drawn and atmospheric above all else, and with a collection of the first six issues releasing in January, there's no better time to jump on, even if we do miss the writer on Secret Six, Birds of Prey, and other DC staples.

And hey, if there's no chance of Simone coming back to DC, Crosswind is a more than suitable replacement. Image have had a brilliant year, with The Wicked and the Divine in particular hotting up considerably in the months since, but Simone's work is undoubtedly their crowning success.

Here's hoping there are more Simone-Staggs collaborations to come!
