10 Best Comic Books Of 2017
5. Wonder Woman
For all the comic book things we received this year, there's no taking away from the fact that 2017 belongs to Wonder Woman. With one seminal series to her name and a cinematic feature too, Diana of Themyscira has single-handedly saved WB's designs on a cinematic universe and further added to DC's brilliant Rebirth on the page and off it.
Said Rebirth was orchestrated by Greg Rucka, a DC Comics veteran and a writer more than familiar with the character. Taking a non-linear approach to Diana's origin, Rucka and artists Liam Sharp and Nicola Scott orchestrated a story that fundamentally rebuilt the character's origin from the ground up. It was a necessary reboot though, and while Rucka eventually went on to leave the series later this year, his stint on Wonder Woman is still one of DC's best, certainly since Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang left the book in 2014.
Wonder Woman hasn't excelled since Rucka's departure, but that doesn't detract from the fact it's been one of the best series of the year, especially when it mattered most. Nicola Scott has since gone on to pen another of this year's most seminal publications, and while we're still waiting to see what Rucka does next in regards to the Big Two, there's no denying that he's had a very good 2017 - comics-wise, at least.
Here's hoping Diana isn't left waiting too much longer for another quality series.
