It's remarkable to think about just how much Captain Marvel has changed since 2010. First there was Kelly Sue DeConnick's highly influential reboot of the character, aided greatly by a redesign courtesy of Jamie McKelvie, and then there was Ms. Marvel, a series that means so much to so many and is so clearly one of the most important entries the medium saw this decade, if not the last two.

Co-created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona and the aforementioned McKelvie, Kamala Khan burst on to the scene as a Pakistani-American hero who idolised Marvel's pantheon of super-beings. It was a clear recipe for success, and by the time G. Willow Wilson left the title in 2019, it was also obvious that the comic had ended as one of the decade's best.

Together with Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, Kamala is one of the most successful comic book characters introduced over the last ten years. She's inspired a generation of readers and is on the cusp of a meteoric rise, with Ms. Marvel poised to take a leading role in Crystal Dynamics' Avengers video game next year, and later in her own series on Disney+.

To amass such a powerful legacy in such a short time is a testament to not only Kamala herself, but to the overall quality of the Ms. Marvel comic. Wilson's stories never missed a beat, and possessed the perfect amount of heart, humour and action.
