8. Wolverine: The Long Night #1

Wolverine Long Night
Marvel Comics/Rafael Albuquerque

Special Agents Sally Pierce and Tad Marshall are in Alaska investigating a couple of murders in which the victims have very iconic slash marks. This is the tale of tracking down a reclusive Wolverine, as well as a mysterious cult claiming that the "long night" is coming soon.

Before getting into the nitty gritty, this is an adaptation of The Long Night audio drama put out in 2018, so it is wordy. The major beats are told in a "I'll tell you what happened" way which isn't necessarily bad, and Benjamin Percy's scripting is strong enough to carry that narrative forward, but can be considered something of a negative for those that prefer different methods of storytelling.

The art and colors by Marcio Takara and Matt Milla respectively are there to complement the story being told and help to elevate the material taken from the audio drama. The art is breath-taking at points, and you can really feel the tone the whole story is going for.
