10 Best Female Characters In The Batman Universe

3. Poison Ivy

Stephanie Brown Batgirl
DC Comics

Poison Ivy's connection with nature makes her a supremely interesting character. Usually a love for all living things is seen as a universal good, if a little idealistic. Ivy though goes far too far the other way with it, cherishing her plant friends so much she’ll kill humans with impunity if she sees them as a threat to her babies.

In recent times, it’s become difficult to know where to stand with her. Murdering is bad, obviously, and when she uses her various toxins on Batman and the other heroes, it’s a very clear good vs evil story. With environmental concerns on the rise and Ivy fiercely anti-capitalist, there are versions which cast her as an antihero.

When she’s strangling a corrupt CEO for releasing radioactive waste or causing oil spills, it’s hard to see her as an out and out villain. The recent Harley Quinn cartoon has only added to her fanbase by making her the second in command.
