8. Kate Bishop - Hawkeye
Though seemingly often overlooked, probably due to the fact that the original Hawkeye, Clint Barton, is also still using the name, Kate Bishop is easily one of the best recent additions to the Marvel Universe.
Bishop has managed to reach such a level that she is basically Barton's equal, both in terms of archery and superheroics, with the character having matched her predecessor's feat by setting up her own team of Avengers on the west coast.
It also helps that the character has appeared in some of Marvel's best books, such as the excellent Matt Fraction/David Aja Hawkeye run, Kelly Thompson's brilliant Kate-Bishop-starring follow up, and, you guessed it, this year's wonderful West Coast Avengers, whose artists and writers have made her a delight to read.
