10 Best Supervillains Who Only Appear Once

6. Face Thief - Iron Man Annual #14 (1993)

Codpiece Doom Patrol #70 (1993)
Marvel Comics

When Howard Stark's rival, Creighton McCall, dropped an ancient mask, it shattered, releasing a devilish Shinma spirit. This entity is known as the Face Thief since it takes on the likeness of anyone by wearing their face as its own. Sensing McCall was a powerful man, the Shinma took on his form by ripping his face off.

When a group of Shinma hunters learned the Face Thief was in the US, they ventured there immediately. Because Tony Stark is the world's most prolific entrepreneur, the hunters warned him that he would be a target of the Shinma since it kills influential people and uses their money to shape the world to its liking. When Stark learned McCall was the father of a woman he once dated, he headed to McCall's estate immediately, worried the Shinma would kill his former love.

Since Iron Man usually battles tech-based supervillains, it's a little odd to have him square off against a face-stealing spirit. However, it would be cool to see Face Thief tackle more supernatural superheroes like Doctor Strange in the future. Considering Face Thief didn't die at the end of the story, his return is possible.
