10 Best Variant Comic Book Covers You’ve Never Seen
9. Adventure Comics #515
The massive head of Darkseid looms out of the cover for this special DC 75th Anniversary issue, brought to life by Lee Bermejo, an artist best known for his work on Joker, the Before Watchmen: Rorschach mini-series, as well as his cover art for Hellblazer, amongst other things.
The face of Darkseid is the overriding factor in this variant, but look closer and there's a lot more going on. The sky appears to be on fire, with swirling clouds ushering in the end of the world, as it seems the planet is about to be sucked into a vortex, and then there's what's happening in the foreground.
Six figures are on their knees in front of him, with either their heads bowed in praise or their arms raised in celebration, and slap bang, drawing in your eye, is the familiar cape of Superman. If that doesn't prove that Darkseid is not a guy to be messed with then just consider this, he's managed to make the Son of Jor-El do the one thing Zod never could.
