9. Batwoman And Maggie To Wed - They Don't

Weddings sell issues and it's not unusual for Marvel and DC to talk up an upcoming superhero marriage - whether or not they actually plan on going through with it.

In Batwoman issue #17, Kathy Kane proposed to her girlfriend Maggie Sawyer. There had been a lot of prep from the writers that made it appear the story was genuinely heading towards this wedding. Which never happened. This wasn't an intended fake out by the writers - in fact, J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman quit over DC's decision. As they wrote in a blog post:

"Unfortunately, in recent months, DC has asked us to alter or completely discard many long-standing storylines in ways that we feel compromise the character and the series. ...most crushingly, (we were) prohibited from ever showing Kate and Maggie actually getting married. All of these editorial decisions came at the last minute, and always after a year or more of planning and plotting on our end."

With a new creative team in place, Batwoman eventually broke up with Maggie by letter without warning, because Maggie's ex-husband didn't want them getting married. Batwoman was worried about Maggie getting to keep custody of her child, but instead of talking to her fiance about all this, she made the decision to just up and leave.

West loves pop culture, movies, comics and TV-shows just as much as you do. Probably. Since you're reading this. Also, she has a cat. He's pretty awesome.
