3. DeviantArt Withdraws Sponsorship Of Comic-Con Artists' Alley

Artists' Alley is a curious artifact at the San Diego Comic-Con. While most conventions have such an "alley" where lesser-known comics artists can compete for attention without getting a full-fledged table or booth, most of them charge a lesser fee to display your wares there. The San Diego Comic-Con, a hugely expensive affair in most other ways, offers space in its alley for free. It cost-justifies this partly through official sponsorship, like the one DeviantArt has offered for the 2013 and 2014 SDCCs, but won't for the 2015, citing a busy schedule. While Comic-Con assures everyone it will keep the alley going in some form, it has already shrunk considerably at a show where space is at a premium. Those who worry about Comic-Con losing touch with the comics that make up its roots should be keeping an eye on this story.
