3. The Harley Quinn Art Contest

Breaking into comics is a tricky business, so DC came up with - surprisingly at this point, I know - a good idea to give people a leg up. Last year they held a contest for budding pencillers to have a crack at drawing a portion of Harley Quinn #0; the winner would have their work published in a major comic book! So where's the controversy? Well, it comes down to what exactly people were being asked to draw. Basically, the sequence consisted of The Joker's girlfriend trying to kill herself in various ways. Which, y'know, isn't in the best taste. Even less so when you announce the contest to draw said scene the week before National Suicide Prevention Week. Here's what DC were asking for specifically;

The controversy sparked widespread protests and news reports, which meant that were eventually forced to apologise. Well, they apologised if people were offended, but not for being offensive. DC are never very good at taking responsibility for things.
