10 Changes That Totally Ruined Comic Book Characters

5. Catwoman

When Catwoman was initially introduced into the comics, she was initially depicted as an amnesiac flight attendant who became a criminal after she injured her head in a plane crash. Throughout the Golden Age, she was a common supervillain committing cat-themed crimes. By the time Frank Miller came around in the 80s, numerous changes had been made to her character and origin over the years. Just like virtually every single one of Miller€™s female characters, his revised origin for Catwoman unnecessarily cast her as a prostitute and dominatrix trying to break away from an abusive pimp. In the modern age, Selina Kyle became something of an anti-hero, acting almost like a Robin Hood, and her and Batman even began a relationship for a time in which he revealed his identity to her. But later writers chose to retcon this, revealing that Catwoman€™s reformation was the result of a mind-wiped performed by Zatanna with the consent of other Justice League members. In the New 52, Catwoman€™s origin has been changed again. Although Miller€™s origin was extremely clichéd, it wasn€™t as bad as Ann Nocenti€™s take, which merges aspects of the different origins for Catwoman into one entity in a way that doesn€™t even work. Particularly bizarre is the choice to include an element from Batman Returns€”namely Selina€™s resurrection by cats after falling to her death.
