10 Characters Who Proved Captain America WRONG

Captain America Surrenders Civil War
Timely Comics

Ok, Time isn't exactly a character, but there's something about Captain America's past that needs to be addressed. Captain America was created to be a symbol of American patriotism in 1941, which was on the eve of American involvement in World War II. Because of this, his past comments and actions haven't aged well.

Cap was constantly going around punching Nazis in the face, and that's not something anyone should complain about, but when it came to the war in the Pacific, things got ugly. There were numerous instances of Captain America going up against Japanese soldiers or Chinese criminals, saying things like, "Here come some China boys, and they're not waving laundry tickets!" In another issue, he beats a Japanese officer while proclaiming the superiority of "White America."

Those examples were only the beginning of Cap's racist comments. In Captain America Comics #14, Cap rallies Bucky to fight a group of Native Americans by saying, "C'mon let's give their copper-colored hides some exercise!" It then turned out that the Native American guy they were attacking was a white man who was disguised as a Japanese spy, who was pretending to be Native American, but that didn't make it any better.

It was the 1940s, and the country was at war, but stories like that haven't aged well, which is why Captain America has been proven wrong, and it wasn't by a specific character - it was the passage of time.
