10 Comic Announcements From Comic-Con 2014 You Need To Know‏

6. Captain America Joins The Mighty Avengers

It's pretty impressive that Marvel still have anything left in the chamber after their series of pre-San Diego announcements that saw Thor becoming a woman, Iron Man going viral and Steve Rogers being replaced by sidekick Sam Wilson in the role of Captain America. The latter of those two developments will partly pay off in the pages of Mighty Avengers, a series which has been the victim of a bunch of cancellation rumours as of late. Turns out they were only half-true as Al Ewing's ace series is going to relaunch as Captain America & The Mighty Avengers, something which the writer is referring to as the "second season" of the title. Mighty Avengers has been a welcome relief from the big, bombastic world-saving action in the main Avengers books. The series focuses on the more "street level" heroes of the Marvel Universe, and was one of the first big successes in the company's push for greater diversity in their books. Artist Greg Land - who many pinpointed as a weak point on Mighty Avengers - is getting replaced by former Captain America artist Luke Ross and the team gets a new leader in Sam Wilson, meaning the former Falcon will now be headlining two comics. Which is pretty chill. Spidey's on the team too! The Doctor Octopus-controlled Superior Spider-Man had some run ins with the Mighty Avengers in their first year but this time it's original flavour Peter Parker beneath the mask, marking his second time he's served on a team after 2004's New Avengers. Plus some guy called the Blue Marvel but, really, we're just excited for Sam Wilson and Spidey being written by the peerless Ewing. Captain America & The Mighty Avengers begins with a new first issue later this year.
