10 Comic Book Characters Who Are Just TOO POWERFUL!

6. The Phantom Stranger

Kingdom Come Superman
DC Comics

The Phantom Stranger first appeared in 1952, with no real origin story aside from a connection to the occult in some fashion. He's had no definitive origin story since then, nor have his nature or real name been revealed.

Regardless, he has the powers of a god-like being. He is an immortal, forever looking eternally young. He can travel across time and space in seconds. He's omniscient, knowing everything about the DC Universe, even carefully guarded information like secret identities, character origins, and the fates of those who have died or otherwise vanished from DC's worlds. He has also dabbled in the Vertigo titles.

His character is more like a Watcher, recording events but not interfering in them, occasionally acting like a guide for other characters as they navigate decisions that he already knows the answers to.

An interesting quirk of The Phantom Stranger's character is that he knows at least one other comic book reality exists. In the 2003 JLA / Avenger crossover, it was revealed that the Stranger knew not only everything about the DC universe, but about the Marvel universe as well.

His dual knowledge of 'what's out there' makes him a unique and super-powerful member of the DC universe.
