10 Comic Book Characters Who Didn't Deserve The Hate

8. Punisher

Riri Williams Ironheart
Marvel Comics

If you go into the pages of The Punisher expecting him to be like a regular superhero, you're almost sure to end up hating the character. He's borderline sociopathic, murders without any real remorse, and has all the fashion sense of a Hot Topic closing down sale.

But, on a practical level, Frank Castle is perhaps the most realisitic look into what a superhero would be like in the real world - namely in that they'd definitely be super unhinged. Superhero comics have absolutely no shortage of people who work by a moral code, or who would never sink to killing someone - so having a character who is not only willing, but actively wanting to kill people makes the universe a lot more interesting, by having some moral variety in it.

Crucially, Frank isn't often made out to be heroic for his actions, either, which works well as it's repeatedly implied that Castle is just looking for an excuse to kill people by being the Punisher, and using this position to justify his endless slaughter as a mission to improve the world, instead of to satiate his own bloodlust.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
