10 Comic Book Characters Who Have NEVER Had Their Identities Exposed
4. Wolverine
Yes, we all know that Wolverine is actually James Howlett, a 19th-century Canadian Mutant who has been doing the superhero thing for a long time. That's certainly known to us now, but for nearly 30 years of publication history, it wasn't even known to Wolverine himself.
He went by the name Logan for most of his costumed career, but that wasn't his name. It wasn't until 2001 that a six-issue miniseries finally delved into the character's origins, giving him his true name. It turns out, his healing factor erased this info from his mind as a means of protecting him after a serious injury, but he eventually relearned who he was.
Despite this revelation, his true name and identity weren't immediately revealed in a press statement to the public, and like most superheroes, he's pretty much kept it to himself. In a way, it doesn't really matter that he is James Howlett, because he spent years known to many as Logan; James was an identity long abandoned to his past.
Still, he remains known to the public as the Wolverine, and it's unlikely that will change anytime soon. Even in the Old Man Logan future reality, he's known as Logan to the world, and that seems to be how he prefers it.
