10 Comic Book Characters Who Keep Changing Identities

9. Roy Harper - Three Superhero Identities

Characters Who Keep Changing
DC Comics

Roy Harper has been cruising around the DC Universe almost since the company first began, having debuted in 1941's More Fun Comics #73. When he first appeared, he was the teenage sidekick to the Green Arrow, and his superhero identity was Speedy.

Harper remained a teenager for about 50 years, as one does in DC Comics before he finally decided he was an adult, and with his adulthood, a new name was required. In order to separate himself from his childhood persona, he adopted the name Arsenal in The New Teen Titans #99, which was published in 1993.

Arsenal worked for a little while, but with the publication of 1996's Kingdom Come storyline depicting an alternate future view of the DC Universe, he was calling himself Red Arrow. Meanwhile, Arsenal was still working for Harper in DC's main continuity, but it wouldn't last forever.

In 2007, he finally put aside Arsenal to call himself Red Arrow, the same name he was to have in the future depicted in Kingdom Come. The main reason for the change was that he wanted to show he was equal to his mentor, the Green Arrow.
