Comic book characters share a rich in diverse universe. For comic book fans, one of the best things is seeing your favorite characters from different books interact with each other. Except is has gone way too far. Marvel and DC now seem define their comics and all stories by "events". Something big that happens that will forever change their respective universes (it usually doesn't change things all that much). Cross comic stories have in the past, been handled well in some instances. But the big trend that has been going on, especially in the last ten years, is that events are all companies put their energies into. One major event happens after another, which diminishes the impact of how epic the story should feel. Events should feel like a big deal. Now they're just overdone and blown way out of proportion. Aside from big cross comic stories never stopping for more than a few months at a time, they also cross over too far. Events cross over into more than just their own miniseries, but into almost every comic a company may own. In order to keep track of everything, readers would need to buy a ridiculous number of comics to get the full impact of the event. This has likely attributed to an increase in comic book piracy just so readers can try and keep track of what is happening in these "major" events. Cross comic stories shouldn't die entirely, just be put on life support. Marvel and DC need to cut back in scale and frequency if events going to be something to look forward to.
