3. Boobs
There is a very true cliché. Sex sells. This translates into comics into one (or two) obvious ways. Boobs. Here's the thing, sex appeal in any form of pop culture is never going to go away. That's fine, I'm not arguing against it. All I'm saying is make it less obvious. When this topic is usually brought up, proportions are typically the main point. I don't really care about that either. Comics are a heightened version of reality. The same basic goes for the male characters too when it comes to muscle, it's a heightened sexual visual. Where the cliché comes in and takes sex appeal to just a silly place is the poses and the costumes. Most male hero costumes seemed to be designed with some purpose in mind. That might be for armor, a symbol, or some metaphor. Female costumes are designed to usually show off as much boob as a possible. How is this helpful for fighting crime or super villains? Does the plan begin and end with "distract them with cleavage"? The other big one is the poses. Imagine how exhausting it would be in real life to always be striking the sexiest pose possible at any given second? Especially in highly stressful situations, as I imagine fighting off alien hordes probably would be. Look at the poster for "The Avengers". Black Widow is the only one who thought sticking her butt out was a good pose to be ready for a fight. I think the Hulk in the same pose would have at least been a lot more entertaining. Sex appeal? Fine. Giant boobs? Fine. Where this cliché needs to change is how the sex appeal is presented. Maybe some minor level of subtlety?
